Why Self Drive

There is nothing quite like the excitement of spotting your 'own' animals, seeing a leopard in a tree, a cheetah darting across the road, turning a corner to see lots of stopped cars

The anticipation of not knowing what’s ahead,  finding something yourself

We love self-drive, you're on our own schedule, all within the Kruger National Park's regulations

  • you drive when and where you want
  • you eat when and what you want
  • you rest and are active when you want
  • you experience as much or as little what you want

Self-drive is the most 'your' way to experience a safari

While self drive is rewarding, and being on your own does have its perks, you also need to be aware of some of the items you will need to navigate

  • You need to find animals ‘by yourself’ and this can be a struggle
  • You need to know which roads to go on and where to drive
  • You need to know how close, or how far, you should be from the animals
  • You need to be able to identify which animals you are looking at
  • You need to know which areas to go to or to visit
  • You need to know when you should and shouldn't be driving

With the guidance of our website, and a little preparation, you will have the time of your life on your visit to the Kruger National Park

What do most tourists do to see Animals?

Our experience tells us

A high percentage of international tourists opt for a guided safari or a private tour to the greater Kruger National Park area and neighbouring wildlife reserves. There are numerous positive reasons for doing this

If it’s your first trip to Africa, we would almost always suggest a guided safari or private tour. In our opinion, the pros outweigh the cons and the vacation you have will require less planning, be simpler and be more of a vacation

However, guided and private safaris can be expensive, can be difficult to accommodate larger groups, and often restrict ages of children, leaving self-drive as the only feasible option

Our website is dedicated to explaining to visitors the self-drive option to the Kruger National Park, including advice on how to plan your visit, accommodation and game drive tips and best practises, spotting your own animals, adding to the enjoyment and taking the complexity out of planning, and ultimately derisking your trip

With this, we hope you’ll be able to build the confidence and go on your very own self-drive trip to the Kruger National Park
