Providing you information, giving you confidence
You can self-drive in the Kruger National Park
We are not a travel agent, we don't make reservations, we don't do bookings, we don't run safaris
South Africa is the one of easiest, most accessible and most economic (but can also be expensive) places to go on safari in Africa
The Kruger National Park, or Kruger Park, is the singular most popular and renowned safari destination. It is one of Africa's largest game reserves and contains a high density of diverse wildlife
Wild animals including the Big 5 (lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalos) are seen regularly, hundreds of other mammal species make their home here, as do large numbers of diverse bird and reptile species
The ecology is diverse and the scenery ranges from mountains to riverine areas, grass plains to tropical forests
“Everyone needs to go on a safari in Africa at least once in their life”
It's an assault on your senses … seeing an elephant in the wild for the first time, experiencing the grace of a giraffe galloping, smelling the dust of the African earth, hearing and feeling the ground shake of a lion roaring.
National parks and wildlife reserves are scattered around countries throughout Africa, each with their own charm and distinction
The Kruger National Park’s infrastructure, wildlife and geographic diversity - make it the ideal destination for a self-drive life-enriching experience.
The Kruger National Park will draw you back, time and again
There are two main ways to visit the Kruger National Park, you can drive yourself and stay directly in the Kruger National Park (publically owned, government-run accommodation) or you can take guided game drives by staying on the outskirts of Kruger, in private safari lodges or hotels
The official SANPARKS website has all the information you could possibly need for a visit to Kruger National Park
Our website is dedicated to explaining to visitors the Kruger National Park self-drive option, your alternative to guided safari tours, including advice on how to plan your visit, accommodation and game drive tips and best practises, adding to the enjoyment and taking the complexity out of planning, and ultimately derisking your trip.
With this, we hope you’ll be able to build the confidence and go on your very own self-drive trip to the Kruger Park
The great thing about a Kruger National Park visit, is that it can be as long or as short as you like
The more time you spend, the greater your opportunity will be to experience wildlife sightings and the geographic and bio diversity of the area. Some people are interested in birding, others only want to see the big 5, others don’t mind what they see - they only want the experience
Our general advice is to get a 'taste' of the Kruger National Park, you would need a 3-5 night stay
While access routes are plenty and simple, it is in a relatively remote part of South Africa and you will need to allow about 3 hours transit time if you fly (only 1 hour flight, but check-in, luggage and security procedures add to journey time) or 5 hours if you drive (from Johannesburg or Pretoria)
Depending on where you're coming from, and how long your trip to South Africa is, will also be a factor on your alloted time in the Kruger Park
With the large area size of the Kruger National Park (380km in length and 60km in width), and limited speed that you can travel within the park, the length of your trip will determine the regions you can visit and you much time you can spend in each of these areas
The Kruger National Park is roughly divided into 3 geographic areas, Southern, Central and Northern regions
5 airports service the central and southern regions, all with car rental facilities
9 entry gates service the entire park, with 5 entry gates in the southern region, 2 entry gates in the central region and 2 entry gates in the northern region
